Baby We’re The New Romantics

Oh my goodness friends! I have been dying to use that post title ever since 1989 was released!
I am so stinking excited to tell you all that Cristian & I got ENGAGED!
Yes.
You read that correctly.
We got engaged!
HOORAY!
Settle in, because this is going to be a long post!
It all started Black Friday, Cristian and I were at Target when he decided that he wanted to buy Christmas lights… “They’re for my room, I think they would look nice.” He explained.
SUUUUUURE.
“When did you become angsty Tumblr boy on me?” I asked.
Finally I stopped questioning him, but I knew something was up.

We had decided the week before we were going to do another photoshoot since we had so much fun in Minneapolis. I mentioned it would be neat to take photos at locations that we had our favorite dates. The night before we were going to take photos Cristian kept insisting I try on numerous dresses so that we looked nice together. He made me try on over 6 different dresses that night!
Then he decided I no longer needed to spend the entire day with him… Apparently I was in need of some girl time and I should go get manicures with my friend Sami.
“Cristian, I barely ever get my nails done… Why should I get them done now?”
“Oh you know, nails look really nice when they’re done in photos.”
*rolls eyes* “Okay dearest.”
By this time I knew something was up.
I frantically texted my roommate telling her something was weird and I think he might propose. *cue text of OMG!!!! YAAAAAAASSS!*
Saturday came along, and so did my nail appointment with my friend Sami. I grilled her the entire time with questions… But she was as cool as a cucumber. She continually avoided my questions or just smooth-talked her way out of them. She convinced me that neon wasn’t the best way to go, and instead talked me into a gorgeous emerald green shellac.
Cristian also had insisted that we have another photographer, Sami, there to take photos. I was super taken aback. Wasn’t the entire reason we were taking photos because we had fun doing our solo shoot in the first place?
Finally I agreed to let Sami come and photograph us as long as I could take some as well.
On the way back from the nail salon (or maybe on the way there, I can’t remember anymore!) I called my dear friend Joy and grilled her with questions. Joy wasn’t in on the plan so she was just as confused and suspicious as I was.
Cristian and I had decided on two locations for photos, the docks and the tennis courts we had our first date on. We drove there together, and the first location didn’t work out. The sun was started to set and it was too bright to take photos. We headed off to the tennis courts, and Cristian kept texting at lights and hiding his phone from me. We aren’t a secretive couple at all, so that another thing that tipped me off!
Sami hadn’t yet arrived at the courts so Cristian and I were able to go and get some shots together. When she arrived we peeled off our coats and started snapping away. I didn’t notice that he had Christmas lights strung on the fence (they weren’t lit yet) so I thought “Hmm, maybe he isn’t asking here… Or perhaps he really is hanging them in his room.”
Then he suddenly pulled out a gorgeous bouquet of tulips from the picnic basket!
We took a few more photos and he then turned to get something else from the basket. I noticed a red box in his hand an immediately started crying. It was finally happening! I couldn’t believe it!
He said some incredibly lovely things, then asked me by my full name “Madeline Marie Weinstein, will you marry me?” I don’t even think he finished his question before I had him wrapped up in a huge hug. I wouldn’t let him go, and he had to get back down on one knee again just to put the ring on my finger!
I absolutely adore the ring, and I’m so thankful Cristian let me pick it out. He knew that it was something I would be wearing for the rest of my life and wanted something that I would love. The center stone was my mother’s diamond from her original engagement ring, she has since upgraded to a different diamond, but I am so touched my mom would let me have hers. It means so much to me, I love things with sentimental value, and I don’t think you can beat a diamond that has been passed down from Mother to Daughter.
After the initial shock was over Cristian ran over to the fence and started fiddling with something. After a moment the fence lit up with Christmas lights! It had just been too far for me to see! We went over to take a few more photos.
As we finished up, or should I say froze… (It was so cold out!) I decided I wanted to take a few last photos in a special location. The spot where we were sitting ^^^ above was the place Cristian put his arm around be for the first time back when we started dating.
It was so incredibly special to go back to the place where Cristian and I had our first date… It was a place with so many incredible memories tied to it, and now a very special memory. I am so thankful I have such a thoughtful Fiancé who planned out the details and made the engagement perfect, even if he isn’t the best at being nonchalant.
Thank you to all our family and friends who have supported our relationship over the years!
I cannot wait to marry Cristian, and I’m pretty sure he feels the same way about me.
I’ve had a great time telling many of my friends before I posted this, and the general consensus from everyone was
 “IT’S ABOUT TIME!”
Yes, we’ve been dating for a long time, but I wouldn’t change one thing about it. Every moment with Cristian has been one I’ve cherished and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him!
Happy belated Thanksgiving!
